Since April 2004, in Šilutė factory owned by “MG Baltic”, the manufacture of bio-ethanol (dehydrated ethyl alcohol) has been started. For dehydration, particularly advanced world-wide technology of zeolit ceramic membranes is employed. Currently, the factory may boast of highly increased production capacities that reach 40,000 tons per year. The manufactured production is sold not only in Lithuania, but exported to the Western Europe. Ethanol is used for fuel (blending of petrol or manufacture of ETBE) or for chemical industry (denatured ethanol).
